The PIC Harbour Classic returns this weekend with 72 yachts already confirmed. With a spectacular fleet lining up, it’s promising to be an unforgettable experience on and off the water.
More than just a race, this unique event is a celebration of sailing, camaraderie, and fun—whether sailors are pushing for the lead or simply soaking up the atmosphere.
As part of the Moana Auckland festival, the PIC Harbour Classic showcases Auckland’s reputation as the City of Sails. The event welcomes everything from high-performance racing machines to classic yachts and cruisers, all sharing the same start line.
Last year’s event saw Frank Racing take out line honours—no surprise given the speed of this foiling powerhouse. Meanwhile, Innismara, a classic yacht, claimed the overall handicap win, and Mayhem, the TP52 high performance monohull yacht designed for competitive racing, secured victory as the first monohull across the line.
With even more boats entered this year, including entrants from the Bay of Islands and as far afield as the French territory Réunion, competition will be fierce, but the emphasis remains on fun and participation.
Commodore Adrian Percival says the PIC Harbour Classic is growing each year and cementing itself as more than just a yacht race. “We’ve always envisioned this as a festival on the water, bringing together sailors of all levels, and thanks to Moana Auckland hosting a Six60 concert right next to the moorings, that vision is becoming a reality.”
Spectators can enjoy the action from some of Auckland’s best waterfront vantage points, including North Head, and the East Coast Bays beaches. And with participating boats moored at Jellicoe/North Wharf for the weekend, the atmosphere will extend well beyond the finish line—especially with Six60 delivering a blockbuster performance on Saturday night.
The PIC Harbour Classic is the perfect opportunity to get out on the water—or simply enjoy the action from the shore. Whether you’re sailing, spectating, or just soaking up the atmosphere, this event truly brings the City of Sails to life.
